Things to remember while installing Java on Windows PC

What is Java?

Java is an object-oriented programming (OOP) language based on C and C++ programming languages. It was first developed by Sun Microsystems in 1995 A.D. However, it was acquired by Oracle Corporation back in 2009–10.

It is one of the most popular programming languages in the world. It is used to develop android apps, desktop applications, web applications, games, etc. Many programmers choose java programming over all the other programming languages.

Why should you use Java over other Programming Languages?

Java Programming language is used over other programming languages because there are various reasons. Some of them are: -

  • It is an independent program that works on different platforms like Mac, Windows, Linux, raspberry pi, etc. which is commonly used by almost all people in the world.
  • It is an object-oriented language that helps to understand programming language and enhances flexibility while allowing to reuse of code.
  • As Java is an open-source program and is free, you can easily execute them on any machine that reduces the extra cost to maintain.
  • The syntax of Java is straightforward, easy to use, learn, and understand, the code is easily debuggable which is easy and simple for learning and using for beginners.
  • It is fast, safe, and powerful than some of the other programming languages.

Stepwise procedure for installing Java

Step 1: Open terminal.

Note: For opening the terminal, at first you need to press “Windows Key + R” in your keyboard then, you are required to type “cmd” in “Run”. After this, please press on “Enter” button for opening the terminal.

Step 2: Now, check whether you have installed the java environment or not. So in the terminal, please provide the following command.

javac

Note: Since Java has not been appropriately installed on the PC, the information is displayed as shown in the above image.

Step 3: For downloading the JDK file, you can visit the link provided below.

Step 4: When you visit the website, you can click on “JDK download” as shown in the image below.

Step 5: Now, click on “Windows x64 Installer” to start downloading.

Step 6: View the license agreement and then Tick on, “I reviewed and accept the Oracle Technology Network License Agreement for Oracle Java SE”.

Step 7: After checking the license agreement, click on “Download jdk-8u261-windows-x64.exe” as shown by the red box in the image below.

Step 8: Now, find the location where the installation file is downloaded and then, double click on the downloaded file.

Step 9: When you open the file, it will ask your permission for installation. Here, click on “Yes” to allow your computer to install Java SE.

Step 10: Then, you will see a welcome note in the dialog box for which you can click “Next”.

Step 11: Now, select the location you want to install and click “Next” as shown in the image below.

Step 12: After you click on “Next” as in Step 11, the program will start to get installed. Once it gets installed, you can click on the “Close” option.

Step 13: Now from the search bar, you can search and type “System”, and open it as shown in the image below.

Alternative: You can also visit the Control Panel and search for the System option and open it.

Step 14: After going to the System, click on “Advanced system settings”.

Step 15: Here, click on “Environment Variables” as indicated by the red box in the image below.

Step 16: Now, double click on “Path” to give the path.

Note: Please do not close any other window while searching for the path.

Step 17: Now, first of all, go to the “Local Disk (C:)”.

Step 18: Open “Program Files” as shown in the image below.

Step 19: In the Program File, find the “Java” folder and Open it.

Step 20: Here, open “jdk-14.0.2”.

Step 21: Now, open the “bin” folder as shown in the image below.

Step 22: Then copy the path as shown in the image below.

Step 23: Paste this path at last after giving semicolon (;).

Step 24: After you copy-paste the path, click “OK”.

Step 25: Again here, click “OK”.

Step 26: After that, open a new terminal and provide command as:

javac

Step 27: After the execution of the “javac” command, if you have carried out installation correctly and have provided the path appropriately, the output should be displayed as shown in the image below.
